When to Book a Tuscany Wedding Photographer

When to Book a Tuscany Wedding Photographer

If you are planning a destination wedding in Italy, you may wonder when to book a wedding photographer in Tuscany. For popular dates, especially between May and October, starting early gives you more choice and less stress.

In many cases, couples contact me around 12 to 18 months before their wedding. However, there is no fixed rule. The right time depends on your date, venue, season and how flexible you are.

When should you book a wedding photographer in Tuscany?

For a wedding during the main Tuscany season, I suggest starting your photographer search around 12 to 18 months before the date.

May, June and September are especially popular. Saturdays can also fill quickly because every photographer can only photograph one wedding in one place that day.

For this reason, once your venue and date are confirmed, it is a good moment to start speaking with photographers.

You do not need to have every detail ready. Your timeline, flowers and final guest number can come later.

Popular wedding months in Tuscany

Tuscany has a long wedding season, but some periods are more requested than others.

Late spring and early autumn are very popular because the weather is usually pleasant and outdoor dinners work well. September, in particular, is often requested by destination couples.

If you are considering this period, you can also read my guide about a September wedding in Tuscany.

For couples with a flexible date, a weekday can sometimes give more options than a Saturday.

What if your wedding is less than one year away?

Do not worry. It is always worth asking.

I often receive requests only a few months before a wedding, and sometimes the date is still available. This can happen with weekday weddings, smaller celebrations or dates outside the busiest period.

So, even if your wedding is close, contact the photographer you like. Availability can surprise you.

The important thing is not to choose quickly only because you feel late. You should still look for someone whose work and approach feel right for you.

Should you book the venue or photographer first?

Usually, the venue comes first.

Once you know the date and location, your photographer can understand the travel, coverage and general structure of the day.

After that, photography can be one of the next important choices.

A photographer does not need your complete wedding plan before you book. In fact, we can later help you understand light, timing and how much time you really need for photos.

If you are still planning the day, my Tuscany wedding timeline guide can help you understand this better.

Why booking early can make planning easier

Booking early is not only about securing a date.

It also gives you time to build trust with your photographer. For destination couples, this is especially useful because much of the planning happens from another country.

You can have a call, talk about your ideas and understand how the photographer works before the wedding.

Later, when the timeline becomes clearer, you can discuss ceremony time, couple photos, dinner and any extra events such as a welcome dinner or pizza party.

This helps the wedding day feel more relaxed.

What should you check before booking?

Before booking, I always suggest looking at complete wedding galleries, not only Instagram posts.

A full gallery helps you understand how a photographer tells the entire day. You can see preparations, ceremony, family, dinner, low-light, and party photos.

Also, pay attention to the way the photographer communicates with you.

Style is important, but trust is important too. You should feel comfortable asking questions and sharing what matters to you.
